TOKYO – July 27, 2023– Prime Strategy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Prime Strategy”) announced that it has started offering a “Theme Accelerator” that loads faster of WordPress on the ultra-fast CMS execution environment “KUSANAGI”.
Users can speed up the display of their WordPress site without having to customize the theme or install plug-ins.
Why develop “Theme Accelerator”?
WordPress, which is used by 43.1% of websites*, continues to be developed for a better user experience as a tool for information dissemination.

In WordPress 5.0, the block editor (Gutenberg) became the standard editor. Users can now produce articles in an intuitive way.
And recently, the ability to assemble parts such as headers, footers, and sidebars, which have been managed by templates, using blocks from the administration screen has been added.
This feature is called Full Site Editing. In application development, low-code and no-code methods that require as little code as possible are gaining attention, and the change in the way WordPress sites are created is also in line with this trend.
However, along with these enhanced features, WordPress tends to display slower. WordPress 5.8 vs. 6.1 showed up to 69% speed reduction. (According to our research)
WordPress is also taking steps to improve speed. However, we thought it would be preferable to support an environment where non-engineering users can speed up their sites as easily as possible when they create them using new methods. Therefore, we decided to develop an acceleration function for the theme.
Acceleration by “Theme Accelerator”
The Theme Accelerator determines which themes are conventional themes and which themes support full site editing, and accelerates each of them. It is particularly effective for sites with large amounts of data, complex customization of headers and footers using blocks, and sites that cannot use page caching.

The percentage of speedup will vary greatly depending on the theme, plug-ins, amount of content, etc., but you can expect a 10% improvement in display speed for a theme that supports full site editing, and 25% to 50% for a traditional theme.
How to Use
Select “Other” in the “KUSANAGI plugin settings” in the administration screen, and activate it by checking the “Theme Accelerator” checkbox.
You can delete the cache with the “clear cache” button on the admin bar at the top of the admin page.

The Ultra-fast CMS platform “KUSANAGI”
KUSANAGI is a fast and secure virtual machine image developed and provided by Prime Strategy. KUSANAGI is available in 209 regions in 34 countries, on 31 major domestic and international platforms (as of May 2023), with a cumulative total of over 70,000 units in operation (as of February 2023).
KUSANAGI 9 can handle more than 25,000 concurrent requests per second (HTTP) in a typical cloud environment (*1) when using page caching, and more than 210 concurrent requests per second (both HTTP and HTTPS) when not using page caching. Compared to the standard LAMP environment (*2), the speedup is approximately 2,330 times faster when page cache is used, and approximately 20 times faster when page cache is not used.
Three editions are offered: the “Free Edition” for personal use, the paid “Business Edition” for business use, and the paid top-of-the-line “Premium Edition” for business use, which includes the WEXAL® Page Speed Technology® web acceleration engine.
